Most people know Barry Hall as the award-winning Sydney Swans Captain who lead the team to their first premiership in 72 years, where they crushed the West Coast Eagles with a four-point victory at the AFL Grand Final in 2005. To others, he’s the loveable, goofy bloke who made it all the way to the final three contestants on I’m A Celebrity Get Me Out of Here, where he quickly became a firm viewer favourite.
Others still are getting to know Barry in his latest role: as a dad to three young sons Miller, Houston and Samson, who he raising on the Gold Coast with his partner and fellow I’m a Celebrity alumni, Lauren Brant.
Barry Hall is all of these things, and more.
Considered to be one of the best AFL Forwards in modern football, he created history by becoming the first player to kick 100 goals for three different AFL teams by July 2011, and was named an All-Australian player 4times – an elite honour bestowed on only the very best on the field. Boasting a strong mark and accurate kick, Barry developed into an example of what was seen as a 'dying breed' in his era: a power full-forward who played exclusively in that role.
He began his AFL career in 1996 and played as a centre-half-forward for much of his first three seasons. A three-goal burst in just five minutes during the 1997 Grand Final gave coaches and fans alike a hint of his potential as a permanent full-forward and in 1999, this transition took place. From then until his retirement at the end of 2011, Barry kicked at least 40 goals in all but two seasons. Barry is the only player ever to win a game from a kick after the siren twice and in 2017 he was awarded the honour of being inducted into the prestigious AFL Hall OF Fame.
There’s no doubting Barry’s football credibility, which has saw him become an in-demand commentator on Fox Footy, with the Gold Coast Suns recruiting him as an assistant Forward coach in 2017.
But there is more to Barry than football. He’s a qualified mechanic with a passion for vintage cars, and can be seen representing international brands on the drag strip and burn out pad.
A sought-after guest on radio and in TV, Barry has appeared on many shows including Channel 7’s SAS Australia showing his trademark grid and determination. A popular media personality who enjoys giving back to charities close to his heart, Barry is an ambassador for Walk With Me.
In 2019, Barry took on yet another new challenge when making his boxing debut with Fox Sports, with a second fight in 2022 on Stan.
Ready for any challenge, Barry is always keen on the next adventure.
